Assessment for identity.
Unit 1- Identity
Creating Mood With Lighting.
We used a soft box to diffuse the lighting. We diffused lighting to remove harsh shadows and to change the mood of photo. We used black and white backgrounds to give the photo more depth and to change the mood. We put the lights in different directions to highlight different parts of the body and face to show emotion.
Rankin
John Rankin Waddell, also known under his working name Rankin, is a British portrait and fashion photographer. He takes portraits of lots of famous people and has earned lots of money from this. I like his photos because they tell a story or show how or what someone is feeling by what they are doing, the composition, the lighting and the colours.

Andy Warhol
|
Andy Warhol was an American artist who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art. His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, celebrity culture and advertisement that flourished by the 1960s. Andy Warhol used celebrities in his photos combining the use of silk screen printing and paint to make these unique images.

NINA CHAKRABARTI
Nina uses normal portraits of models with straight faces then gets a pen and draws other faces. She uses pens to draw abstract patterns or shapes on their faces to show the emotions and feelings.
MY RESPONSE
Using Text In Images
Barbara Kruger
Barbara Kruger is an American conceptual artist. Much of her work consists of black-and-white photographs overlaid with declarative captions—in white-on-red Futura Bold Oblique or Helvetica Ultra Condensed. She uses big bold text in her images to portray a message through the image and she uses images that relate to the message. She buts her images in black and white to create a contrast and red text so it stands out.

MY RESPONSE TO BARABARA KRUGER
I put these images in black and white then adjusted the levels to create a greater contrast between colours and used red text to copy the style of Barbara Kruger .
Using text to comment on Identity
DEVELOPING MY IDEAS
I want to investigate how the imagery around hobbies like scooting effects identity. To start this I took these action shots that show movement and capture the fast pace of this hobby.
Liam Eyles
He is an independent scooter photographer that takes photos of professional scooter riders from all around the world all around the world. He uses multiple angles like long shots and close up shots to dramatise the size of the obstacle. He uses big flashes to make the colours more vibrant. He shows movement by taking the photo at the mid point of the trick or where there is the most movement. I like his photos because he takes photos of one of my interests and I like the long shots because it makes the colours of the spray paints, clothing and backgrounds look vibrant and shows the whole ramp or obstacle.

Refining my best photographs
For this image I took a few steps;
Step one: I traced around the front of the scooter and that half of the image using the polygon lasso tool. Step 2: I copied the traced out section of the image onto a new layer and made it black and white. Step 3: I then went back to the original layer and adjusted the colour balance and vibrancy so the colours looked how I wanted. |
For this image I took a few steps.
step 1 : I cropped the image so the rider was more central in the image. Step 2: I then used the iris blur tool to blur the background but keep him in focus, I did this as the background is very busy and it helps him stand out more. Step 3: I adjusted the colours so the colours are more exaggerated. |
